Custom and rolling gates in Tucson, AZ

Walk gates, double drive gates and rolling gates, measured at your property and welded to fit.

A gate gets used every day. It has to swing or roll true, latch on the first try and still look right years after the install. Nunez Welding builds gates as welded steel frames sized to your opening, then hangs them on posts set to carry the weight.

Gates we build

  • Walk gates for side yards and courtyards, square or arched, with room for the lock you want. The brown walk gate in our photos carries a keypad deadbolt.
  • Double drive gates wide enough for a truck or a trailer, with a drop rod to hold the fixed leaf.
  • Rolling gates for driveways with no room to swing. More on those below.
  • Decorative gates with scroll tops, cut steel quail and reeds, horse heads, butterflies or woven strap.

Rolling gates

A swing gate needs clear ground in front of it, and plenty of Tucson driveways do not have it. The drive slopes up from the street, a car is always parked in the arc, or the opening sits right on the sidewalk. A rolling gate slides along the fence line, so it needs room to the side and almost none in front.

The gate is a welded steel frame that rolls along the ground, with guides at the top to hold it upright, so the run beside the opening has to be clear and close to level. It can carry bars with an arched top, solid steel panels or horizontal slats, and many of the drive gates in our photos are rolling gates. Daniel checks the ground when he measures. Where it will not take a rolling gate well, a double swing gate is often the better build, and we build both.

Built for Tucson weather

Summer sun, monsoon wind and blowing dust are all hard on a gate. A heavy leaf that sags will drag on the concrete, and a light one rattles in every storm. The frame, the posts and the hinges get sized to the leaf so it hangs level, and the finish gets settled before any steel is cut: a bronze tone, satin black, or raw steel left to weather to a deep rust brown.

Gates that match the fence

Most gate jobs sit inside a fence line, so the two should read as one piece. We build gates in the same corrugated panels as our steel fences, or in bars and patterns that pick up the security door on the house. If you already have a fence, we can build the gate to suit it.

“The gates are solid, beautifully fabricated, and work perfectly.”

Questions about gates

Can a gate be added to a fence I already have?

Usually, yes. Daniel will look at the posts and the opening on the site visit. If the existing posts cannot carry a steel gate, new posts get set for it.

Is a rolling gate better than a swing gate?

It depends on the driveway. A rolling gate needs clear, fairly level ground beside the opening, and a swing gate needs clear ground in front of it. Daniel looks at both on the site visit.

How to get a gate quote

Call or text (520) 345-4241 with the width of the opening and a photo if you have one. For a drive gate, say whether the driveway slopes and how much room there is beside it. Daniel will set a time to measure and bid the job. If you like a gate from our photos, say so and we will work from it.
