The Catalina Foothills rise north of the Rillito River toward the front range of the Santa Catalina Mountains. From our shop on East 36th Street it is about 20 minutes up Kino Parkway and Campbell Avenue to River Road, and a few more to Sunrise Drive and Skyline.
What we build in the Foothills
Foothills homes tend to be custom, set on hillside lots with washes, big views and courtyards. That suits custom security doors and iron and glass entry doors at the entry, courtyard and drive gates, and view railings and balconies along patios and decks where the pickets have to stay out of the way of the city lights. Pergolas and steel shade make a west-facing patio usable in the afternoon. We also build corrugated steel fences and rolling gates where a lot calls for them.
Building on a Foothills lot
Many Foothills neighborhoods have design rules or an architectural review, and the houses run from territorial and Santa Fe styles to clean modern lines. Bring your guidelines and the look of the house to the first visit, and Daniel will sketch a pattern and finish that fits both. Slopes are common here too, which matters for railings, landings and gates that have to clear the grade when they swing.
Sun is the other constant. Doors and railings facing south and west take the full afternoon heat off the desert, so the finish choice matters: a bronze tone or satin black, or raw steel left to weather to rust brown, which a lot of Foothills owners like next to stone and desert planting.
Questions from Catalina Foothills homeowners
Can a railing keep the city view open?
Yes. Picket spacing and rail height get planned around the view, like the curved patio railing in our photos that follows the flagstone edge.
Will you work with our HOA design review?
Yes. Bring the guidelines to the first visit and Daniel will sketch the design to fit them, with the size and finish details the committee asks for.
